Thohoyandou woman grows skincare business

Tshepiso Mphidi turns passion into business with Glow and Show Skincare, offering organic solutions for acne-prone skin and promoting mental well-being.

LIMPOPO – Tshepiso Promise Mphidi, the founder and owner of Glow and Show Skincare, is based in Thohoyandou Golgotha. Mphidi’s business not only sells skincare products but also creates employment and contributes positively to the beauty industry.

Mphidi’s journey began with a thoughtful birthday gift of R1 200, which she used as seed capital to start her skincare hobby.

Armed with a social work degree from the University of Venda and currently pursuing a Master’s degree, she turned her passion for skincare into a business.

“Glow and Show is a skincare product line designed to help people with their skin problems, particularly those struggling with acne-prone skin and pimples,” Mphidi said.

“I know firsthand the struggle of dealing with these issues and how they can affect one’s confidence. With Glow and Show, people can regain their confidence because our products are effective. We’re not just focusing on improving the skin; we’re also addressing mental health. The name Glow and Show embodies this concept – you glow physically, and in turn, radiate confidence. My passion for organic skincare motivated me to create Glow and Show. After using organic skincare myself for over a year and receiving numerous compliments on my skin, I realised I could share my products with others. If it worked for me, it could help others as well.”

She said she started with a little money, “and all the profits I make would go back into buying more materials to maintain the quality of the products”.

It was initially challenging to make a profit, as everything earned was reinvested, she said.

“Additionally, facing criticism on social media has been difficult, especially as people forget that I am just starting out.”

Building trust is often another challenge for first-time entrepreneurs.

“Many are hesitant to buy from a small business, fearing that the product may not work or might harm their skin. This makes it tough to build trust in the skincare industry. People often assume that, as a black businesswoman, I have significant resources, which is not true. To overcome these challenges, I educate people through my TikTok videos, where I showcase and explain how I make my organic skincare products. I focus on those willing to try the products, and they have been getting great results, which has helped build trust.”

She believes what makes Glow and Show special is her personal experience with the struggles her customers face.

“I understand the challenges of living with acne, dealing with bullying, and the journey to achieving glowing skin. We are not just about improving the skin; we are also about building confidence and self-esteem. I have an entire channel dedicated to motivating my customers, which sets us apart,” she concluded.
