POLOKWANE – Food storage will never be the same again after popular storage brand Tupperware files for bankruptcy.
For generations, Tupperware has been renowned for designing, manufacturing, and distributing authentic, innovative, and trusted products of exceptional quality.
In a statement, the president and chief executive officer of Tupperware, Laurie Ann Goldman said the company’s financial position has been severely impacted by the challenging macroeconomic environment.
“We explored numerous strategic options and determined this is the best path forward. This process is meant to provide us with essential flexibility as we pursue strategic alternatives to support our transformation into a digital-first, technology-led company better positioned to serve our stakeholders,” she said.
According to their website, Tupperware invented a solution to food waste, empowered female entrepreneurship through social selling, made the home party famous, and is as relevant today as when it was founded in 1946.
“Everything at Tupperware is driven by the desire to help save time, money, space, food and energy. Tupperware continues to innovate for the benefit of people and our planet,” their website reads.
The statement adds that Tupperware will seek court approval to continue operating during the proceedings as it remains focused on providing customers with its products through Tupperware sales consultants, retail partners and online.
“The company will also seek court approval to facilitate a sale process for the business in order to protect its iconic brand and further advance Tupperware’s transformation into a digital-first, technology-led company,” their statement read.
