Taxila's Mokgako Ngake wins top prize at Provincial Road Safety Debate, earning the school a coveted overall win and a spot in the national finals.

POLOKWANE – Taxila Secondary School is celebrating a major achievement after being named the overall winner of the 2024 Provincial Road Safety Debate and Participatory Educational Techniques (PET) Competition, held on August 24 at The Ranch Resort.

Principal Tlou Ramara said they are immensely proud of Gr 11 learner Mokgako Ngake, who represented the school and the Capricorn District with distinction. Ramara also extended congratulations to the other learners from schools who represented the Capricorn District at the event.

The competition showcased participants’ knowledge, critical thinking and public speaking skills, as they addressed a range of important road safety topics. The debate opened with the motion, ‘The ban on alcohol sales will reduce road crashes,’ and concluded with discussions on achieving a ‘50% reduction in road fatalities by 2030’ as part of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.

Transport Limpopo, the Impact Catalyst team, and the Department of Education praised all the participants, teachers, and organisers for their dedication to promoting road safety awareness.

“A heartfelt thank you to our judges, sponsors, and organisers for their tireless efforts. The winners will now advance to represent Limpopo at the national finals,” they added.
