PEPPS hosts Girl’s Talk and Gentlemen’s Club

PEPPS' Girls Talk and Gentlemen's Club creates a safe space for self-reflection, expression, and empowerment, and for learners to connect with peers.

POLOKWANE – PEPPS College Polokwane hosted a Girls Talk on August 17, focused on the theme of self-expression.

The event, coordinated by school counsellor Minky Masote, provided an open forum for Gr 8-12 girls to discuss personal issues in a supportive environment.

The afternoon covered topics such as ‘How to express yourself when you have been ashamed’ and ‘What is guilt’, allowing participants to address concerns they might not usually have the opportunity to share.

The talk created a safe space for self-reflection and connection among peers.

The guest speaker, Busi Makwaerela, a former PEPPS learner, former board member, and current parent at the school, inspired the girls with a powerful message: “A space to hear and be heard, see and be seen, know and be known – not by anyone but by sisters who you come to realise are walking the same road as you.”

Meanwhile, across the campus, a Gentlemen’s Club was hosted by teachers Timmy Mahlane and Fanie Maimela, where boys engaged in discussions on peer pressure, substance abuse, and the importance of grooming themselves into responsible men.

Learners Arthur Semenya, Maile Mamabolo, Thapelo Makgeru, and Thendo Nethomboni were among the speakers who addressed their peers.

The day concluded with a braai, fostering camaraderie and reflection among learners.
