Female Mankweng tavern owner among four arrested for murder

Two victims are said to have entered a tavern in Nobody outside Mankweng where they were allegedly beaten with various objects, leading to the death of a male in his twenties.

POLOKWANE – A female tavern owner and three male accomplices will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today (September 3) in connection with the murder and assault of two men.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a mob justice incident took place at a tavern in the Ga-Mothiba village in Nobody outside Mankweng on Sunday (September 1) and a male victim in his twenties was declared dead on the scene.

“The deceased was found with multiple injuries inside the tavern while the other victim sustained injuries and was transported to hospital.

Ledwaba said preliminary investigations revealed that the two victims entered the tavern after it was closed and were dragged inside. They where then allegedly assaulted by the suspects with various objects.

“The motive for the incident is still unknown and a case of murder and assault GBH has been opened,” his statement read.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the swift arrest of the suspects and further warned members of the community against taking the law into their own hands.
