Outage at Ebenezer plant to leave Polokwane’s taps dry

A power outage at the Ebenezer Plant will further strain the already low water reservoir levels in the City of Polokwane.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality says it is closely monitoring a power outage at the Ebenezer Plant and will implement temporary relief measures as it will negatively impact water supply.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala says the plant has been non-operational since Thursday night due to a power outage on the supply line to the plant.

“Lepelle Northern Water has reported the issue to the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality, however, as of this morning, the plant remains out of service,” his statement reads.

Selala adds that the outage will further strain the already low water reservoir levels and that residents and businesses fed by the plant will be negatively impacted.

“We urge those receiving supply to use water sparingly. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” he says.
