Lim Transport Dept ramps up visibility ahead of ZCC pilgrimage

Law enforcement officers will be deployed at all main provincial routes to manage the flow of traffic and ensure compliance with road safety regulations this weekend.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety urges members of the public and motorists attending this weekend’s ZCC pilgrimage to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety on the roads.

Millions of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) congregants are expected to gather in Moria this weekend as the church gradually resumes its regular conferences.

ZCC spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that the church’s first conference will be for the 2024/25 Consecration of the New Year and will take place from August 30 to September 1 in Moria City outside Polokwane.

Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane is expected to deliver the main sermon at this weekend’s gathering, which will be the first post-Covid-19 service since the lockdown in 2020.

Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene told the Polokwane Review-Observer that they are aware of the pilgrimage and that it is expected to increase traffic volumes towards Limpopo.

“Our law enforcement officers will be deployed at all main provincial routes to manage the flow of traffic and ensure compliance with road safety regulations. We recommend those travelling to contact our nearest traffic stations to check their buses before embarking on their journey,” Chuene said.

She encouraged motorists to plan their trips well ahead, rest, and be mindful of other road users.

“Our message is clear: Obey the rules of the road to Arrive Alive. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and will do everything in our power to prevent accidents and fatalities on our roads,” she said.

Traffic volume to Polokwane is expected to significantly increase as the week progresses as congregants make their way to the province.
