POLOKWANE – For the second consecutive year, Moshasheni Mabotja, a resident from Polokwane, has secured her place as one of the top 10 finalists in the prestigious Shoprite and Checkers Championship Boerewors competition, proudly representing Limpopo.
Mabotja, who works at the Department of Public Works, shared with the Polokwane Observer that her appearance in last year’s grand finale bolstered her confidence in her culinary abilities.
“Making it to the finals last year affirmed that I have the potential to win. This year, I aimed to perfect my craft and showcase to other provinces that Limpopo also boasts exceptional talent. My goal is to inspire people from my province to explore new opportunities and competitions, as you never know how far you might go,” she said.
After impressing a panel of judges from the South African Chefs Association across multiple rounds, Mabotja is set to compete alongside nine other finalists at the grand finale in Cape Town this Saturday.
During the event, they will prepare and cook their boerewors for a distinguished panel of judges, including Zanele van Zyl, Carmen Niehaus, James Khoza, Matthew Howcroft, and Martin Kobald.
The winner will be announced on the day and will receive remarkable prizes, including a brand-new Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD RB AT, and the coveted title of 2024 Boerewors Champion.
The winning recipe will also be for sale in Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide from September 6.
The winners of the Shoprite and Checkers annual Championship Boerewors Competition will stand a chance to win:
• 1st prize: Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD-6 RB AT and R20 000 cash.
• 2nd prize: R50 000 cash.
• 3rd prize: R30 000 cash.
