Sustainability takes root with Noorderland learners

Noorderland learners welcomed Capricorn TVET College's Greening Campus Initiative which inspires action towards environmental sustainability.

POLOKWANE – Noorderland High School welcomed a fruitful visit from Capricorn TVET College Polokwane Campus recently.

The college engaged with learners to highlight the significance of the Greening Campus Initiative, a programme in collaboration with the United Nations Association of South Africa.

The primary objective of the initiative is to introduce the initiative and highlight the importance of environmental sustainability, food security, and community involvement.

Additionally, the team provided valuable information on the courses offered by the college, admission requirements and application procedures.

This outreach effort aims to inspire and educate the next generation about environmental stewardship and the opportunities available at Capricorn TVET College.

Martha Masopoga-Chuene, Noorderland’s Gr 9 head, expressed appreciation for the visit.

“The GCI presentation enlightened learners about the Green Campus developed by the German Development Agency. As a school, we hope and believe that the learners will seize the opportunity to educate others, ensuring that the environment is safeguarded and resources are used sustainably,” she said.

The school’s debating team will receive mentoring from the English department at the campus to prepare for the United Nations debate competition.

“We promise to look after the naartjie tree donated by the campus, to benefit both current and future generations,” Masopoga-Chuene added.
