PCS celebrates 30th anniversary

At the celebrations, students and staff wore the school's special anniversary T-shirts, and enjoyed birthday cake and musical performances.

POLOKWANE – Learners and teachers of Pietersburg Comprehensive Primary School celebrated the school’s 30th anniversary on August 18, with great enthusiasm.

The celebrations saw learners and staff proudly wearing the school’s special anniversary T-shirts, enjoying slices of birthday cake and participating in musical performances.

Yonsie van Staden, one of the school’s longest-serving teachers, reflected on the school’s journey and her personal connection to its success.

”I started here in 1994 as the first teacher. I consider myself a teacher of democracy, having been part of this school from the beginning. I’m proud to be a member of a school that has been a cornerstone of our community for so many years. What always brings me joy is seeing our learners achieve their goals and succeed in life. We have former learners who come back to share their success stories with us. We’ve produced doctors, engineers, teachers, entrepreneurs and even beauty queens. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our former learners thanking us for shaping their futures.”

Principal Rudi Fick also expressed pride in the school’s growth and development over the years.

The school, which started with just 44 learners in 1994, now accommodates 1 230 learners from the city and surrounding areas.

”The school has grown tremendously over the years,” Fick said. “We started teaching in old classrooms with chalk and chalkboards, but we’ve evolved with the times. Technology is the future, and we now use smart boards and various electronics in our classrooms. Our learners love the modern approach to teaching.”

Fick also shared his hopes for the current generation of learners, wishing them success in achieving their future goals and ambitions.

”Every year brings a new generation of learners, and our goal is to help them grow into responsible adults. As teachers, it’s our duty to bring out the best in every child. We have a dedicated team of teachers who are leaders in their fields and work tirelessly to ensure that all learners are equipped with the right knowledge. The success of our former learners is a source of pride for us, and we are committed to continuing our tradition of producing successful individuals.”
