Vhembe woman (20) to represent SA in Mexico pageant

Unarine Netshia is set to represent South Africa at the prestigious Miss Ecology International pageant in Mexico.

LIMPOPO – Unarine Netshia, a 20-year-old from Tshixwadza village in the Vhembe district, will represent South Africa at the Miss Ecology International pageant in Mexico next month.

The prestigious event, which features contestants from 54 countries, aims to combat women abuse, inspire young women, and equip them with confidence, entrepreneurship skills and leadership abilities.

Netshia, who holds the titles of Miss University of Venda Queen and Miss Teen Makhado Royal, is a final-year B.A. international relations student at the University of Venda.

She expressed her pride in being selected to represent South Africa, emphasising the need for support from fellow South Africans through votes and engagement on social media. She plans to keep her followers updated on Facebook and Instagram.

During her two-week stay in Mexico, Netshia will undergo daily training in culture, literature and socio-economic issues while engaging with delegates from various countries.

She will also showcase South Africa’s rich heritage through stunning designs by her sponsor, Sandy Nemakonde of Lady Sandz Designs.

She views this opportunity as a platform to promote education, environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment on a global scale.

“Growing up in a community that lacked resources sharpened my perspective on the importance of empowering others and creating a lasting legacy,” she said.

Her journey has included community outreach, environmental projects, and leadership development, all of which have equipped her with valuable skills and meaningful connections.

Despite the challenges of balancing academics and modelling, especially in preparation for the international pageant, Netshia remains focused on her strengths and relies on the support of her family, university, and community.

Netshia is also seeking sponsorships to help offset the expenses of her trip. Those interested in supporting her can contact her at 073 056 2331 or unarinenetshia.15@gmail.com.
