POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Health confirmed three people were injured during an explosion at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital earlier today.
Health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana said the trio consists of two hospital employees and a technician from a private company working on decommissioning an MRI machine.
“The three people sustained moderate injuries after the MRI machine expelled huge volumes of air in the hospital’s Radiology Unit,” his statement read.
Shikwambana said the expelled air caused infrastructure damage, which resulted in the injuries.
“No fatalities were reported. An assessment is still being made to establish the cause of damage. Developments will be provided as they become available,” he said.
Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego later visited the three people.
“We rushed here to see the extent of the damage and to wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” she said.
