PEPPS hosts leadership development programme

PEPPS Gr 11 leadership programme aims to equip and prepare learners with essential skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.

POLOKWANE – PEPPS Polokwane hosted a Gr 11 leadership development programme on Friday and Saturday.

The programme aimed to equip learners with essential leadership skills such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, teamwork, and time management. These skills are valuable not only for their roles as prefects but also for their personal growth and future endeavours.

Fannuel Maimela, the coordinator of the event, emphasised that being a prefect requires more than just holding a title.

“We want to ensure that our prefects can lead effectively, inspire their peers, set a positive example, and contribute towards a conducive learning environment. Leadership development programmes help learners cultivate these qualities, build confidence, and encourage them to step forward and take on leadership roles,” Maimela explained.

The two-day programme included various activities, presentations by internal and invited guests, and assessments to identify learners who demonstrate genuine interest, commitment, and potential for leadership. This process enables peers to make more informed decisions during the prefect selection process.

“Overall, leadership development initiatives provide students with valuable experiences and knowledge, preparing them to take on the responsibilities and challenges of being a prefect and fostering a culture of leadership and personal growth within the school community,” Maimela added.

Guest speakers included Almien Mokobodi, the founder of Tutor Mentor Connect (Lingo Connect), an education activist and a youth leader with the African Diplomatic Organisation (formerly AUYA), and Joseph Mahlaola, who holds a Doctor of educational ministry in Leadership and is a senior pastor of Christ Baptist Church.

The programme was well-received, with students actively participating in the activities and gaining insight into effective leadership practices.

This initiative reflects PEPPS Polokwane’s commitment to developing well-rounded, confident, and capable future leaders.
