Limpopo police killed in shooting rampage outside Polokwane

Officers arrived at the scene to find a male officer with a gunshot wound to his head and a female officer and a brigadier with multiple gunshot wounds.

POLOKWANE – In a tragic incident in the Southern Gateway area this weekend, a Limpopo police officer turned the gun on himself in his senior colleague’s car after shooting two people, killing one and injuring the other.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Brig Hlulani Mashaba reported that officers arrived at the scene around 13:30 to find a male officer with a gunshot wound to his head and a female officer, a brigadier, with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Further investigation revealed that another victim, a resident of the same area, a female officer, was also shot and rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

“Reports suggest that the police sergeant went to the house of a former police officer and opened fire during an altercation,” Mashaba said.”

He then proceeded to the female officer’s house, where she tried to escape in her car. Unfortunately, the suspect fired several shots at her, resulting in her death.

The enraged police sergeant then got into the senior officer’s car and turned the gun on himself.

“Police have opened murder and attempted murder cases, and an inquest.

Limpopo police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident, saying such actions are regrettable and in direct contravention of the values and principles of the police.

“The loss of members within the service is a severe blow to our communities. We urge the public to respect the privacy of the families involved and to refrain from speculating on the details of the case until all facts are established.”
