Jabez drummies beat out competition at Day of Stars

Jabez's drum majorettes achieved impressive wins and are now aiming to continue their winning streak at upcoming provincial events.

POLOKWANE – Drum majorettes from Jabez Christian Academy made their school proud when they scooped five first places and two second places in the Day of Stars competition that was recently hosted by the Limpopo Majorettes and Cheerleading Association at Kuscke Agricultural High School.

The team took the first places in the primary baton stage, primary mace group, primary PON non-prop group, primary small drill sub-leader and primary small drill overall categories.

They also made second places in the primary small drill squad and the primary small drill leaders categories.

Majorettes from S J van der Merwe Technical High School, Hoërskool Piet Potgieter, Waterberg Angels, Sterkrivier Combined, Potties Comprehensive, Laerskool Krugerpark, Kuschke Agricultural High School, MPS Dynasties, NPS Violets, Dr Dixon Mphahlele Primary School and PEPPS Mokopane, among others, also made the day an event to remember.

The Jabez team, consisting of Moleboheng Selepe, Lethabo Mamosebo, Regaogetswe Maphoto, Melissa Phaahla, Kegaaugetswe Ledwaba, Rorisang Nakeni, Gabriella Sathekge, Phenyo Mbalati, Unarine Mudau, Gedrute Mathega, Vhulenda Ramavhoya, Nndondote Masevhe, Ronewa Makhani, Kgahlisho Mawasha, Reitumeetsi Maphoto, Jerusha Mthombeni, Thato Phooko, Mulanga Rambuda, Olivia Mokgesi, Princess Malatji and Mikhenso Mhlongo set the scene for the provincial events and will take every possible opportunity to hone their skills before they take on the other teams but it is still true that practice makes perfect and in this particular sport code, precision and timing is paramount.

Jabez Principal Dr Elana Erasmus said that she is very proud of the school’s drummies.

“They performed spectacularly and we are looking forward to the upcoming provincial events. The first provincial event is scheduled for August 3 at Krugerpark Primary School in Mokopane for the all cheer groups, all small groups and all Junior/development groups and will be followed by the second provincial competition, scheduled for August 24 at Hoërskool Piet Potgieter, also in Mokopane. For the second competition, only majorettes and large groups and drills will compete,” Erasmus said.
