TLC ward receives heartwarming donation

Kindness warmed the hearts of young cancer patients at the TLC ward as a donation of 50 beanies brought joy to those who needed it most.

POLOKWANE – No one asks to be diagnosed with cancer, especially not a child. Cancer means treatment, and treatment often means enduring chemotherapy and radiation, which can necessitate extended hospital stays for both the child and their mother.

At the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital, there is a special ward dedicated to young cancer patients, known as the Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) ward.

This vibrant, welcoming space is designed to comfort and support young patients during their treatment. Bobby Were, facilitator at the TLC ward, highlighted the importance of donations to help the children, who often lack essential warm clothing.

“A donation of beanies, gloves, and socks is always welcome as most of the children do not have the necessary warm clothes,” he said.

Recently, the ward received a generous donation of 50 beanies from the Rotary Anns Club of Pietersburg 100.

“We are very grateful for these donations. We sent the children home with their beanies because they do not have some at home. Sometimes a brother or sister of the patient also gets a beanie. Therefore, we appreciate every person who was part of this project.”

This is not the first time the community has come together to support the children at the TLC ward. During a previous knitting project, participants made ponchos for all the children.

The ongoing support and generosity from the community make a significant difference in the lives of these young patients, providing them with much-needed warmth and comfort during their treatment journey.
