Escaped Limpopo prisoner recaptured after community tip-offs

A 33-year-old prisoner escaped from custody in Thohoyandou but was rearrested a day later thanks to community tips.

LIMPOPO – A 33-year-old trial-awaiting prisoner, Pfundzo Eddie Ramafamba, who escaped from custody in Thohoyandou on July 9, has been re-arrested.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba credited the alertness and cooperation of the community for the successful apprehension.

Ramafamba, who was initially arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and intimidation, was recaptured on the morning, July 10 in Mokonde village.

His arrest followed an operation activated promptly after police received valuable information from community members.

Ledwaba explained that Ramafamba escaped from custody while he was scheduled to appear at the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court.

The circumstances surrounding his escape are still under police investigation.

In addition to his previous charges, Ramafamba will now face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.
