POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Pensioners Choir departed for Spain on June 27 to compete in an international choir competition alongside other senior citizen choirs from around the world.

At a brief farewell ceremony held at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane Mayor John Mpe expressed his well-wishes to the choir.

“This is a choir of elderly citizens, and they will be representing Polokwane and South Africa in Spain. We want to thank them for inspiring us and the young people of Polokwane. They are active and have shown that it is not about their age. We appreciate them and believe they will raise the South African flag high at the competition.”

Matlakala Bopape, the choir’s conductor, shared their excitement and future plans.

“We are happy with the Spain tour and we want to do well. We will also be participating in other international competitions,” she said.

The Polokwane Pensioners Choir has become a symbol of perseverance and dedication, demonstrating that passion and talent transcend age.
