A security guard who caught the suspects in the act has been charged with attempted murder after shooting the man twice in his leg for resisting arrest.

POLOKWANE – A burglary suspect will appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon following his arrest in the early hours of Tuesday morning (July 2).

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says a 56-year-old security official shot and injured the suspect who was found in the process of a burglary at a school in Blood River near Seshego.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the security guard found a group of suspects in the act after receiving notice about a burglary. One suspect fled the scene and one was caught but he resisted arrest and attacked the security officer. In response to the situation, the security officer shot the suspect twice in the leg,” his statement read.

Ledwaba said the 35-year-old male suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard and has been charged with business burglary while the security officer has been charged with attempted murder.

“The police are conducting a thorough investigation into this matter to establish the facts surrounding the incident,” he said.
