Limpopo police on the hunt for N1 spiking/murder incident

One man was killed and several others robbed of their belongings by two suspects following a spiking incident on the N1 near Bela Bela.

LIMPOPO – The police in Bela Bela are on the lookout for suspects involved in a murder and armed robbery incident that took place along the N1 Radium Bela Bela on Monday night.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the victim was driving a Toyota Quantum on the N1 when he hit spikes shortly after Mantsole.

“The victim stopped the vehicle to check what had happened, while other passengers searched for stones to lift the trailer and change the tire. The victim then noticed two unknown men sleeping on the grass. They then threatened him with a firearm and he tried to run and warn other passengers to run for their lives but fell,” his statement read.

Ledwaba says the victim’s brother, a passenger, was walking toward the road when the suspects shot him in the back and knocked him down.

“The suspects then searched the remaining passengers and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash and five cellphones before fleeing the scene,” he said.

The police were notified and murder and armed robbery cases were opened.

“Emergency personnel services were called and they certified the victim’s brother dead at the scene,” Ledwaba said.

The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Sergeant Frank Moeng at 082 780 7265, the crime stop number at 08600 10111, the nearest police station or share information on the MySAPSApp
