HTS’ netball team reign supreme

The team has been racking up wins, and the Bosveld Intervarsity was no exception as they added to their growing list of victories.

POLOKWANE – The Bosveld Intervarsity is not only one of the biggest clashes between Tom Naudé Technical High School Tom Naudé and Hoërskool Pietersburg, it is perhaps the biggest.

Each year rugby, netball and various other sporting codes are played to determine which school takes the honours for the year.

The first netball and rugby teams come head to head on the festival’s last day, with high hopes for both schools to win their matches.

This year, for the first time in the history of Bosveld Intervarsity, Tom Naudé’s first netball team beat the PHS team by 33-30.

Responsible for this nail-biting game were Palesa Wiso (captain), Nkatego Moyana, Elizabeth Modixenyane, Bokamoso Riba, Maldande Buthelezi, Lethabo Legodi, Palesa Tebele, Adelay Branders, Lerato Ramalepe and Kubura Abubakar.

According to Kubura, they focus on the game and make sure to come to practice with goals, determination and mentality all in preparation for the game.

Kubura, or Abu as her friends call her, was selected to play in the SA u/18 netball team representing South Africa at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2023. She was also chosen for the u/18 National Fast 5-team.

“We play as a team and we win as a team. We all work together to achieve success.”

Earlier this year Abu was selected for the SA u/21 team that will compete at the World Cup in Gibraltar next year. She is currently in Gr 12 at Tom Naudé.

This win against PHS at the Bosveld Intervarsity was not the only one for the team so far this year. They also won their matches against Hoërskool John Vorster, Hoërskool Nylstroom, Curro Heuwelkruin, Northern Academy, Capricorn High School, and again against PHS at the Capricorn Netball District Finals.
