Prominent Limpopo musician seriously injured in R37 collision

A nine-year-old girl was killed in the collision when a charcoal hatchback collided with a truck and overturned.

POLOKWANE – The Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed the death of a nine-year-old girl in a motor vehicle incident on the R37 on Saturday night.

The incident, involving a prominent Limpopo-based musician, occurred when a charcoal hatchback collided with a heavy motor vehicle and overturned near the Smelters Mine outside Polokwane.

Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the child was declared dead on the scene while the driver and another adult passenger was seriously injured.

“A hatchback with no registration plate hit the heavy motor vehicle at the rear then overturned. The two patients, declared P1 and P2 on the scene, were transported to a medical facility for treatment,” Chuene said.

According to the accident report, speeding was noted as the cause of the incident.

The Polokwane Review-Observer is currently awaiting police confirmation from the Limpopo police regarding the identity of the prominent musician who was involved in the incident.
