Piet Hugo learners raise almost R3000 for those in need

Each term, the prefects identify an organisation that depends largely on donations from the public for its operations.

POLOKWANE – One part of being a member of the learner representative council at Piet Hugo Primary School involves giving back to the community, and raising awareness for those in need.

Each term, these prefects identify an organisation that depends largely on donations from the public for its operations.

In the first term, they decided on the Polokwane Nasorgsentrum, which is home to 20 mentally challenged adults.

The learners raised money at school as well as non-perishable foodstuffs.

An amount of close to R3 000 was paid into the Polokwane Nasorgsentrum’s bank account and on Thursday, the prefects handed over canned food. Saartjie du Toit, house mother and manager, thanked the learners for the donation.

“Piet Hugo always supports us with the Takkie Tax and Casual Day initiatives too. We appreciate this much-needed donation.”
