New police stations open in Muyexe and Bolobedu

The new facilities are equipped with modern infrastructure and technology aimed at improving police services.

LIMPOPO – The inauguration ceremonies for the Muyexe and Bolobedu police stations, held last Monday, were led by the national police commissioner, Gen Fannie Masemola.

The new stations are part of the police’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security in communities as well as providing policing services in high density areas.

These state-of-the-art facilities are equipped with modern infrastructure and technology, aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of police services.

Speaking at the opening ceremonies in Muyexe and Bolobedu, MEC Florence Radzilani highlighted the importance of these new stations in fostering a safe and secure environment for all residents.

“On behalf of Provincial Government and the people of Muyexe and Bolobedu, who are the biggest beneficiaries of these projects, we are thankful that today, we are able to launch them and officially hand them over to the rightful owners. The openings coincide with the launch of Child Protection Month, and it will assist in heightening the fight against gender-based violence and child abuse.”

She said as the department responsible for community safety, they continue to provide and oversee the functionality of the community police forums as a link to bridge the relations between the two entities.

“We shall also be doing the same at both police stations, and endeavour to ensure that CPFs and all related structures are fully functional,” added the MEC.

Masemola emphasised the role of the community in supporting the police.

“Safety is a collective responsibility. We urge the community to work hand-in-hand with our officers to report crime and suspicious activities.”

He also thanked the communities for their patience with regard to the construction of the stations, which took longer than anticipated.

He reiterated that the police stations don’t belong to the station commanders and police officers working there, but to the community.

“Our mandate is to ensure we provide a service to you, and to prevent, combat, and investigate crime, maintain public order, and ensure we protect all the citizens and their properties.

“We will also ensure we deal decisively with those who don’t comply with the law and bring them to justice.

Members of the community must at all times be afforded the chance to open cases and never be turned away to solve their issues at home. Our duty is to open cases and ensure they are thoroughly investigated,” he added.

He said the Bolobedu policing precinct covers a large area and ensured communities that cases will be prioritised and fast-tracked,

“Together, we can build safer neighbourhoods and communities”.
