Limpopo police search for suspect accused of rape

Colonel Ledwaba said the victim alleges that the suspect is known to her by sight and is suspected to be staying around Lephepane village.

LIMPOPO – Nkowankowa police have strengthened a manhunt for an unknown male suspect for the alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman in Lephepane village on Monday afternoon (May 13).

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the victim was walking along the street when she encountered the male suspect wearing a red work suit.

The suspect grabbed and strangled the victim before pushing her to the ground. She was then undressed and raped. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

The victim was able to get assistance and reported the incident to the police who opened a case of rape.

“The victim alleges that the suspect is known to her by sight and is suspected to be staying around Lephepane village,” said Ledwaba.

“A manhunt for his apprehension is ongoing. Anyone with information that can assist should contact the Investigating Officer Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Mahlane on 082 469 2625, the crime stop number 08600 10111, go to their nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.”

Police investigations are continuing.
