LIMPOPO – The Limpopo police say domestic violence cannot be ruled out after the discovery of a dismembered man in Tshidimbini village outside Thohoyandou on Monday morning (May 13).
Police are said to have responded to a call about a murder and attempted murder and upon arrival at the scene, found a human head at the gate.
“When the policemen proceeded to the house, they found the decapitated body of a 41-year-old man tied with a rope. It was also established that a 32-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter were already transported to hospital after they were allegedly attacked by the same family member,” said police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The woman and the child were severely injured in the ordeal.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the gruesome incident and is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court.
“Police further seized items that included a hammer, spade and a knife believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. A case of murder and two counts of attempted murder have been opened against the suspect,” Ledwaba added.
The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed shock over the horrific attack.
“Senseless, cruel and inhumane brutality has no place in our society and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. No one has a right to take anybody’s life even with the slightest provocation. We assure everyone affected that justice will be served without fear or favour,” Hadebe said.
Meanwhile, the 48-year-old Stephina Sefekwane Chuene appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on May 6 and 7 for the murder of her 18-year-old son.
Chuene was arrested after her wheelchair bound son’s decapitated body was found near a tavern in Leshikishiki village near Lebowakgomo on May 3.

Ledwaba said Chuene was positively linked to the murder and was immediately arrested.
She will remain in custody until May 16 for a formal bail application.
