POLOKWANE – A 29-year-old foreign national is expected to appear before the Ritavi Magistrate Court in connection with the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl at a rental residence in Nkowankowa.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary investigations indicate the minor victim, believed also to be a foreign national, was raped by the 29-year-old male suspect on Friday, May 10.
“The incident was reportedly witnessed by children playing inside the yard who informed their parents,” he said.
The victim’s guardian was alerted and the child was taken to a local hospital for examination where medical personnel confirmed signs of rape.
“The incident was then reported to the police on Saturday. A case of rape was opened and a manhunt for the suspect began which resulted in his apprehension on Sunday in the Ritavi policing area.”
Ledwaba said that police investigations are continuing.
