Limpopo man who allegedly shot wife during church service arrested

Police said the man's licensed firearm believed to have been used to commit the crime was confiscated during his arrest. 

LIMPOPO – The 54-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his wife (45) during a church service in Makonde Shadani village on Saturday (March 30) appeared before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court today.

The man was was arrested after he handed himself to the police on Monday afternoon (April 1).

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the man’s licensed firearm believed to have been used to commit the crime was confiscated during his arrest.

“The suspect is said to have entered the premises at around 18:00 while the congregation was engaged in worship and callously fired multiple shots at the victim, resulting in her untimely death,” Ledwaba said.

The man fled the scene in a silver-grey sedan following the incident.

“While the motive behind this appalling incident remains unclear, domestic violence can not be ruled out,” Ledwaba concluded.
