Football tourneys to add more excitement over the Easter holidays

Soccer tournaments are synonymous with Easter celebrations around the country and have produced Bafana Bafana players in the past years.

POLOKWANE – Percy Motloutsi, astute soccer coach says aspiring soccer players from different areas in the province should maximize on opportunities presented by Easter Soccer tournaments organizers at various areas in the province.

Soccer tournaments are synonymous with Easter celebrations around the country and have produced Bafana Bafana players in the past years.

“In various villages and respective communities many celebrate the Easter period by participating or attending soccer tournaments. Everyone is back from work and they want to have fun. Making the tournaments are top local football teams who are competing for top prizes and bragging rights.”

Motloutsi emphasised that he would love to see the soccer players making use of the opportunity presented to them by the organisers of these tournaments.

“They must play with their hearts and give their all. Most of them are from underprivileged backgrounds and have a lucrative contract with professional soccer in the Premier Soccer League or outside the country. I will be having my tournament in Seshego’s Zone 3 on April 27. This will be a developmental tournament and young players in the area will contest each and showcase their talent. We are encouraging family members to come in their droves to celebrate Easter with us in a soccer way.”

Some of the players from the province who are the products of Easter tournament and made it to the international soccer stage are Victor Letswalo, Thabiso Khutumela, Gift Motupa, Hlompo Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Sammy Seabi.

“These players were discovered at these tournaments and they dominated the international football stage. Some have played for Bafana Bafana while some are still in the mix. There is something positive about these Easter tournaments. There are football scouts who are there to spot talent and players who will be happy to be scooped by top teams.”
