Leeto La Polokwane buses resume operation following taxi protest

Members of the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association (SPTA) formed a blockade with their vehicles outside the service's bus depot on Monday morning in protest.

POLOKWANE – The Leeto La Polokwane bus service has confirmed that its operations resumed today following a stoppage on Monday morning.

Members of the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association (SPTA) formed a blockade with their vehicles outside the service’s bus depot in protest.

SPTA chairperson, United Nemaungani told Observer that they intended to halt the buses from normal operations until the Polokwane Municipality responds to their outcries which he also said were “long overdue”.

In a statement, the Leeto La Polokwane office states operations resumed following discussions between the city, the Vehicle Operating Company (VOC), Esilux (Pty) Ltd and Phase 1A affected taxi associations.

They said that while the parties rigorously engage to resolve dispute, operations for the next three days will be as follows:

  • 20 March: 05h00-09h00 and 16h00-19h00 (morning and afternoon peak)
  • 21 March: 08h00-15h00 (Sunday operations hours)
  • 22 March: 05h00-09h00 and 16h00-19h00 (morning and afternoon peak)
