Foreign national caught with heroin worth R12 000 in Polokwane

A tip off suggested that the suspect was set to deliver drugs to a shop in Eduan Park but he drove away once confronted by police.

POLOKWANE – A 52-year-old foreign national is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of and dealing in suspected illicit drugs.

The man was arrested by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit on Tuesday for being in possession and dealing in illicit drugs worth over R12 000.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the team received a tip-off about a suspect who was delivering drugs to a shop in Eduan Park driving a blue hatchback with a Limpopo registration number.

“The team drove to the area and spotted the vehicle. An African male was found in the drivers seat with the door locked and windows closed. The members introduced themselves and the suspect immediately drove away,” he said.

A chase ensued and the suspect was caught at his place of residence in Burger Street, Polokwane.

“During the search of his motor vehicle, a white paper box was found with seven transparent plastic bags containing suspected drugs (heroin) and three transparent plastic bags containing a powder suspected to be heroin as well. He was arrested for possession of and dealing in suspected illicit drugs,” Ledwaba said.
