Matlala Road head-on collision claims toddler’s (2) life

Law enforcement and emergency personnel took almost six hours to clear the scene after two vehicles collided head-on.

POLOKWANE – The police’s Westenburg branch is investigating a case of culpable homicide following an incident that recently claimed the life of a two-year-old toddler along the Matlala road (D19) near ext 71.

The scene of the head-on collision took almost six hours to be cleared by law enforcement and emergency personnel.

Two hatchback vehicles collided head-on, leaving both drivers trapped inside the vehicles.

Six more people sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital by helicopter to receive treatment.

Capt Lesiba Ramoshaba told BONUS on Friday that the cause of the accident was unknown at this stage and that the investigation is ongoing.

In other news, another head-on collision occurred between a bakkie and a minibus along the Dendron Road (Mogwadi) between Lithuli and Emdor last Saturday.

Passengers were trapped inside the vehicle, police confirmed, and were taken to Seshego Hospital for treatment once they were freed.

According to Polokwane Municipality’s Kgaugelo Mphago, 11 people sustained priority two injuries as the minibus was on a yellow line with commuters boarding.

“The bakkie operator attempted to overtake the minibus but it ended in a head-on collision.”

No fatalities were recorded, he confirmed.
