Weather service issues severe thunderstorm warning for Polokwane

Following a week of high maximum temperatures, rain will bring some relief to the City of Stars as the Level 2 warning takes effect this afternoon.

POLOKWANE – The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 2 severe thunderstorm warning for Polokwane today (March 14).

Following a week of high maximum temperatures, rain will bring some relief to the City of Stars.

According to the SAWS website, the warning will take effect from 14:00 this afternoon until 23:59 tonight.

A Level 2 warning suggests a high likelihood with minor impact.

The SAWS says localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges might be possible as well as large amounts of small hail over an open area.

AccuWeather’s forecast predicts a 40% chance of rain today with thunderstorms expected between 13:00 and 15:00 this afternoon.

Daytime highs of 32°C is expected today while Friday will cool down to 27°C.
