Dimpho Monareng: Drag racer back in court this month

Mosoma was arrested at the scene and appeared in the magistrate's court on December 13 for the first time, and again on December 20 when he was granted bail.

POLOKWANE – Katlego Mosoma (20) will appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court again on February 26 after having been charged with culpable homicide.

Before being released on bail in December last year, Mosoma was arrested for having run over and causing the passing of Dimpho Monareng (15) during a drag race at the road next to Beach Front in Zone 4.

At the time, Seshego police’s Ali Maluleke confirmed that on December 4 at 17:45, the drivers of a blue Ford SUV and a white Nissan NP200 were drag racing.

“In the process, one of the drivers hit the girl and she died at the scene,” he said.

Mosoma was arrested at the scene and appeared in the magistrate’s court on December 13 for the first time, and again on December 20 when he was granted bail. The other driver involved in the drag race was only called in for questioning, Maluleke remarked.

Dimpho was buried in Tickyline village outside Tzaneen on December 23.

Her mother, Lerato Monareng, appreciated the call for justice at the time. Recently, she told BONUS that her family and that of the Mosoma were on cordial terms despite the loss.

Representatives of the Mosoma family confirmed having attended the deceased’s memorial and funeral service.

Among those who mourned her death were learners from Bokamoso Secondary School who joined the families and Seshego residents for a peaceful march as a sign of salutation to the accident scene.

Monareng was a Gr 8 learner at the school.

A candle vigil was held in celebration of her life.
