Limpopo bikers trained on safe behaviour on the road

Over 300 bikers in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo have been trained since the initiative was launched in 2022 with the purpose of saving lives.

POLOKWANE – More than 80 motorcyclists from across the province attended road safety training hosted by the South African Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) at the Polokwane Raceway on Saturday. The motorcyclists convened at the Shell Ultra City N1 and enjoyed a short ride to the raceway track where the training session was held.

“Sanral has identified motorcyclists as some of the most vulnerable road users, meaning they are more at risk of road fatalities or crashes. “That is what brought about this initiative to host bikers and equip them with the necessary training and knowledge to be safe on the roads,” Sanral northern regional manager, Progress Hlahla remarked.

“The training involved safer riding, defensive riding (including cornering, correct sitting positions and lean angles while operating a motorcycle), motorcycle inspection, emergency braking, tyre pressure monitoring for road riding considering surface conditions and terrain, and the importance of wearing proper bike gear which can help prevent severe injuries,” he explained.

The agency partnered with a popular professional biker, Sfiso ‘Iam63’ Themba who shared his experiences.
