LIMPOPO – The apple surely does not fall far from the tree when one looks at musician Ntendeni Mukondeleli Nephawe, better known as Mutendas Jr.

His mother, Mariana Motlare is a popular Afropop musician and his father, Tendani Philip Nephawe who is known as Mutendas in musical circles, is a veteran Tshivenda music maestro.

It came as no surprise when in 2006, Mutendas Jr started singing with his parents from the early age of seven.

Mutendas Jr unveils his musical identity in a new single entitled Ndi Nne which the young musician from Thohoyandou Block G recently released.

In 2018 while he was still attending Mbilwi Secondary School, he surprised everyone by inventing a solar-powered umbrella.

He again in 2019, as a young scientist went on to represent South Africa internationally in Kenya.

Mutendas, who is also a studio session guitarist, is upbeat about his new single and hopes it will put him on the musical map.

“Ndi Nne was released in December and the impact it is making out there is phenomenal. I strongly believe it will be one of the hottest songs this festive season. It was inspired by the persistent question about my identity by my fans, and here I am trying to explain who I am. Do not be confused, I am the son of the legendary Tshivenda musician Mutendas and popular Afropop musician Mariana Motlare,” said Nephawe.

He said as an individual, he plans to make it big in the industry.

“Besides being a vocalist, I am a refined lead guitarist. Those asking why I kept my talent to myself for such a long time, the answer is simple – the timing was not yet right. This is the perfect time for me to shine and display what I have.”
