Fifth Ride for a Child aims to be a world record breaking event

LIMPOPO – The fifth annual Ride for a Child motorbike ride around South Africa will start on February 11 and will visit the most northern, southern, eastern and western points of South Africa accessible by road bike.

The first stop of the 7 000 km journey will be on February 11 in Louis Trichardt after the crew completes a 389 km journey from White River.

From Louis Trichardt, they will depart to Lephalale via Musina on February 12.

The aim of this 7 000 km mega charity ride is to collect funds for children who are in medical surgeries and treatment.

In order for this event to become a world record breaking one, an minimum of 4 500 bikes are needed as one group, in a staggered formation, for the last 50 km to Jeffreys Bay.

A formal record attempt will be lodged with RecordSetters in the USA.

Dr Andre will depart from White River Shopping Centre in Mpumalanga on February 11 at 09:00 and will arrive back at the shopping centre on March 2.

Dr Andre is the CEO and founder of Pediatric Care Africa which was founded in 2017 and so far, has handed out the equivalent over 2.2 million meals, over 5 000 baby packs containing baby milk/food and nappies etc. to babies and toddlers.

Special record attempt badges and Dr Andre’s cook book, “Cooking with Doc” will be available for sale at the end of the ride as all badge and book sales goes directly to Pediatric care Africa.

The organisation has also assisted 5 895 persons with free medical treatment and 1 390 children were taken to private doctors and specialists of which over 100 received surgeries.

”We ask a participating fee of R100 from participating riders and R50 for pillions, as these funds collected will go directly to children’s medical care and surgeries as part of our fundraising effort to assist our children in need”, a statement read.
