Meropa employees receive long-service awards

Meropa Casino and Entertainment World opened 21 years ago with 130 staff members and has since grown to 523 members of staff.

POLOKWANE – It was an evening of glitz, glamour and gifts as Meropa Casino and Entertainment World recognised employees for years of dedication and hard work last Thursday.

The success of ‘The heartbeat of Limpopo’, as Meropa is affectionately known, can only be attributed to the diligence and attention to detail long-serving employees have put into their roles over the years.

Meropa Casino and Entertainment World opened 21 years ago with 130 staff members and has since grown to 523 members of staff.

Sammy Mokhele, Meropa’s general manager indicated that their awards function was a celebration of 67 team members who have been with Meropa for five, 10 and 15 years respectively, and those who were part of the journey from day one.

“The success that we have is really about the collective experience. We consistently do well, and at some point for six consecutive months, we were number one in terms of customer service in the entire Sun International Group. When we say we are ‘The heartbeat of Limpopo’, we mean we pay attention to the small stuff. We cannot be the heartbeat when our service is poor. Thank you to the staff members who continue to go the extra mile and come to work with passion and vigour. I can see it every day when I walk the floor, I can see the exceptional people who all have the best interest of this business at heart,” he said.

The MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rodgers Monama said Meropa Casino and Entertainment World has for many years been an outstanding landmark and an economic driving force in the province.

“As a province, we are proud. This establishment contributes R326m in terms of tax revenue to the provincial fiscus, which is huge in assisting government to create more social amenities,” he said. He added that Meropa furthermore contributes R5m through their social corporate investment programmes.

“As provincial government, we are blessed to have institutions of your calibre, that assist us to plough back to our communities and we really appreciate that,” he said.

The function was enjoyed by all present, with entertainment in the capable hands of Ashifashabba and artists including Vendaboy and Motlanalo with a fashion presentation by Bomma Sneakers.
