Level 2 severe thunderstorm warning issued for Polokwane
Periods of rain are expected throughout the day today with a 63% chance of showers forecast.
POLOKWANE – Following a week of highs in the thirties and sunny conditions, lower temperatures and rain will bring some relief to the City of Stars.
The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 2 severe thunderstorm warning for Polokwane.
Thunderstorms are predicted for today ( November 29) according to AccuWeather’s forecast, along with humid conditions.
The warning will come into effect at 14:00 today and will run until 23:59 this evening.
Periods of rain are expected throughout the day today with a 63% chance of showers forecast.
According to AccuWeather’s forecast, around 4.6mm of rain is expected during the day today with 77% cloud cover.
Their forecast also suggests a 55% chance of precipitation this evening with a 26% chance of thunderstorms.
With the warning in place, the weather service says its impact includes localised flooding of susceptible low-lying areas, informal settlements and susceptible roads; minor motor vehicle accidents due to poor driving visibility; localised damage to informal houses over open areas due to strong winds and localised service disruption due to power surges.
The weather service suggests seeking shelter immediately, if you are outside, and not to seek shelter under a tree, telephone or power lines, on hilltops or under unprotected gazebos or tents.
“If possible stay indoors away from metal objects. Do not go fishing or play golf as both the golf clubs and fishing rods are a good conductor of electricity and avoid low lying roads and bridges. Be aware that any combination of hail, strong winds, heavy rain and/or excessive lightning can accompany the storms,” their website reads.
