The Donut Dude provides sweetness all around
Uzair Jeenah owner of The Donut Dude started when he was in matric and would only work in the trailer on weekends.
POLOKWANE – The Donut Dude has the perfect treat for a sweet tooth.
Founded in 2017 by Uzair Jeenah and his cousin Yusuf Khan, they have been serving sweetness all around the city.
Based in Flora Park, Jeenah explained that the business operates from a small trailer.
In 2017 when The Donut Dude started, he was still in matric and would only work in the trailer on weekends.
It was only after completing Gr 12 that he was able to, through hard work and dedication, take over the business completely.
The 25-year-old said that when they started the business, they were learning as they went along, and there was a lot of trial and error but they eventually made it work. Now they can confidently say that they have mastered their craft.
“At the time, it was just the two of us trying to figure things out and learning how the machines work,” he said.
Their journey to this point has not been without challenges, as one of those was the size of their trailer.
“The trailer is small, so we had to figure out how to fit in all the machines. Load-shedding has also been a challenge, especially at events where we exhibit,” he said.
Jeenah added that another challenge is the continuous increase in the cost of ingredients and the lack of events in Polokwane .
Their menu mainly consists of two products, namely mini doughnuts and chipsticks/spiral potatoes with a variety of spices and flavours. His dream is to open his own doughnut store.
