GRAPHIC PHOTOS: Two rhinos shot and killed on Limpopo farm

The circumstances surrounding the poaching of two rhinos on a Limpopo farm is being investigated by the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit.

LIMPOPO – The police in Rooiberg in the Waterberg District have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects involved in the poaching of two rhinos on the Pomo Estate.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the complainant last saw his rhinos on Sunday morning without any suspicion.

“On Monday morning, the complainant received a phone call from an employee informing him of suspicious footprints on the farm and upon inspection, found no fence cut. When proceeding to the rhino camp, two animals were found shot and killed with their horns removed,” Mashaba’s statement read.

The circumstances surrounding the incident will form part of an investigation and a case of rhino poaching has been allocated to the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit for further handling.

“The police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist in arresting the suspects to contact the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Jurg Van Heerden on 082 414 2337, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, at the nearest police station or via the MySAPSApp,” Mashaba said.
