Machaya’s couture garments are made with love and passion

What Machaya Selepe loves most about the fashion industry is the creative part of it and coming up with new designs.

POLOKWANE – Couture garment fashion designer Machaya Selepe from Polokwane specialises in wedding gowns, formal clothes, matric dance dresses and couture garments.

“Couture garments take time to make as they should be very neatly done. They are sewn with passion, and love and passion is written all over them. You can’t rush them otherwise the end result won’t look good,” she said.

As a wife to Piet and a mother to four children, Boithabiso, Kabo, Didintle and Mmushi, Selepe owns a fashion line named Royal Wardrobe Designs.

“The name was inspired from the Bible, 2 Kings 22. This is a scripture about a woman who was in charge of the royal wardrobe. At that time I was desperately looking for the name of the company because I tried to register the names that I wanted but they were already taken, so when I read this scripture I immediately made up my mind right then and there,” she said.

Selepe completed her fashion design practicals in 2008 and the following year started her own company where she works from home.

“I love working from the comfort of my home because I work at my own pace, and to ensure that all the orders are done accordingly and on time. This is where the royal magic happens,” she said.

Selepe also designs exclusive couture dresses for pregnant women who want to feel glamorous in evening gowns for any type of event or function.

“I believe every woman deserves to feel good about themselves and create beautiful memories that you can look back on and share with your family.”

What she loves most about the fashion industry is the creative part of it, and coming up with new designs.

“I also love fashion shows. I love putting together a new range and showcasing it, but at the same time I love watching people’s shows. My advice to those who want to follow in my roots of designing is to have a love and passion for designing. Those are the only things that can keep you going when your path gets dark.”
