Limpopo police on the hunt for escaped prisoner

Thapelo Sebola who faces charges of murder and attempted murder is said to have escaped while being transported from the Polokwane Correctional Services to Motetema.

POLOKWANE – The police in Motetema have launched a manhunt for 31-year-old Thapelo Sebola who escaped from lawful custody on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Sebola was being transported from the Polokwane Correctional Services to Motetema at the time of his escape.

“The suspect escaped from the police van that had been travelling on the D4100 Road at the Mogaladi junction next to the Tompi Seleka Agricultural College. He fled into the bushes,” Ledwaba’s statement read.

The circumstances surrounding the prisoner’s escape is being investigated.

“The suspect faces charges of murder and attempted murder in Motetema and Lebowakgomo, respectively. A manhunt was launched immediately to locate him,” Ledwaba said.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called on the community to assist with information that can lead to the rearrest of the suspect.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer Captain Malesela Mothokwa on 082 414 6464, the crime stop number on 08600 10111 or at the nearest police station.”
