Former EFF Limpopo chairperson launches trade union

Jossey Buthane recently launched the Workers Emancipation Trade Union and vowed that his political affiliation to the EFF would not impact his work.

POLOKWANE – Former EFF provincial chairperson, Jossey Buthane formed the Workers Emancipation Trade Union (Wetu) two months ago and launched the union in Polokwane last Wednesday, saying it would soon become the preferred alternative for workers.

Buthane said its formation in July was driven by many employees known to his organisation, who were dismissed from work without proper disciplinary measures foregoing their dismissals including the issuing of warnings as prescribed by the Labour Relations Act (LRA) of 1995.

“Employee labour union representatives either negotiate in bad faith or do not strengthen arguments against employers. That is how they lose out. This is also why many employees are paid below the minimum wage and way below how much they are worth because their unions have taken the side of the employer.”

Buthane vowed that his political affiliation to the EFF would not impact on his work as Wetu leader.

“Even if an EFF employee affiliated with Wetu comes with a labour complaint, they will be represented fairly. That, I can guarantee,” he mentioned.

Any worker interested to join is required to pay an R80 monthly fee. Membership is immediately activated and they will receive legal representation in all labour related matters when necessary, Buthane added.

The union’s office is based at Office 23, at the corner of Hans and Thabo Mbheki.
