Man who faked his own death arrested in Mahwelereng for partner’s murder

A 27-year-old man faces charges of murder following the stabbing of his girlfriend (19) and the death of a man whose body he used to fake his own death.

LIMPOPO – A 27-year-old man was arrested at his hideout in Mahwelereng Zone 17 on Tuesday for the fatal stabbing of his 19-year-old girlfriend in the Thohoyandou area.

On September 3, the police received a report about a female victim who was stabbed in Ha-Magidi village and on arrival found emergency medical services attending to the woman.

She later succumbed to her injuries at the scene and was identified by her next of kin as Ridodzula Mudzanani from Mbaleni village.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had been walking and met her boyfriend before screams for help were heard by a passerby.

“The victim had been stabbed with a sharp object, allegedly by the suspect who fled on foot. It was also revealed that the couple have two children and domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” his statement read.

In a twist of events, Ledwaba said a male body was found a week after the incident with the Identity Document (ID) of the suspect next to the body to give the impression that he had died.

“Investigations revealed that the deceased’s ID was in his pocket and that the unknown body was not that of the suspect. A trace continued that led police to the Mahwelereng area where the suspect was arrested,” Ledwaba said.

The man will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe warned criminals that the long arm of the law shall never fail as it will catch up eventually.

” It is evident that they will be nabbed, prosecuted and incarcerated for the evil crimes they commit,” she said.
