VIDEO: More than 20 miners dead in R572 incident

Unconfirmed reports suggest the bus collided head-on with a truck and immediately burst into flames. 

LIMPOPO – The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, will this morning, visit the accident scene that claimed the lives of more than 20 employees of the Venetia Mine.

Departmental spokesperson Vongani Chauke said a bus ferrying the mine’s employees was involved in an accident on Sunday afternoon.

Chauke said the incident occurred on the R572 about 25km from Musina en route to the mine.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the bus collided head-on with a truck and immediately burst into flames.

It is said that 20 people died and four survived.

“A further update will be provided when the police have completed the investigation,” Chauke said.

Radzilani will be joined by the Mayor of the Musina Local Municipality Godfrey Mawela and senior management of the mine to ascertain facts around the accident and pay a courtesy visit to the patients in hospital.
