POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality has confirmed that the Olifanstpoort Plant has been running at full capacity since 02:00 this morning following a nine-hour shutdown on Thursday.

At the time, Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) said the stoppage was due to a vandalised manhole in Mamaolo village which forced the water utility to stop the plant.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said while the plant is running, all areas affected by the water shortage have not received supply as yet.

“This could be because the line was empty and it normally takes some time before supply reaches all areas if the line was empty,” his statement read.

Selala said they anticipate flow to reach all affected areas soon.

POLOKWANE – The city’s water woes continue as the Olifantspoort Plant is currently not pumping water to Polokwane.

According to Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) via the Polokwane Municipality, the stoppage is due to a vandalised manhole in Mamaolo village which has forced the water utility to stop the plant.

“The line needs to be fixed to avoid loss of more water and will therefore negatively impact the recovery of reservoir levels to the Polokwane Municipality. Most areas were already experiencing water shortages as a result of constant power outages affecting operations at the Ebenezer Plant,” municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said.

He added that LNW is anticipating a nine hour period for the completion of repairs.

“Water supply will be restored once LNW has completed repairs. Areas experiencing water challenges are urged to report to the Municipal Call Centre on 015 290 2000/015 023 5000, the dedicated Water and Sanitation Helpline on 015 290 2376 via WhatsApp on 068 290 8736,” he said.
