Savannah Mall armed robbers to remain in custody

The five men from Umlazi in Durban are said to have walked into the store and held the employees at gunpoint before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.

POLOKWANE – The five men arrested in connection with a business robbery at a jewellery store in Savannah Mall in May will remain behind bars until their next court appearance.

Mduduzi Zulu (30), Lindokuhle Skhosana (29), Asanda Mhlongo (24), Sandile Ngcobo (40) and Sifundo Chiya (34) appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where they were remanded in custody until October 3 for further police investigations and a possible bail application.

The five men from Umlazi in Durban are said to have walked into the store and held the employees at gunpoint before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.

The men were arrested in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal on May 19.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the men were found in possession of some of the stolen items and the getaway vehicle at the time of their arrest which was positively linked to the robbery.

“The value of the stolen jewellery is estimated at over R3m and police are still on the hunt for other suspects,” Malabi-Dzhangi’s statement read.

Dashcam footage of the arrest surfaced online shortly after and shows members of Magma Security and Investigations, the Hilton Flying Squad and the Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit intercepting a white sedan on the N3 south towards the Hilton offramp.
