Man arrested at Polokwane taxi rank with heroin worth R5 000

The suspect was arrested by members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit on Monday at the city centre taxi rank during a disruptive operation aimed at eradicating drugs. 

POLOKWANE – A 29-year-old suspected drug dealer who appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of possession of illicit drugs will formally apply for bail on September 8.

Robert Lesoalo was arrested by members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit on Monday at the city centre taxi rank during a disruptive operation aimed at eradicating drugs.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was arrested following a tip-off and was caught while selling drugs.

“The suspect was searched and found in possession of heroin with a street value of R5 000. The arrest of drug dealers in the province is a testament to the relentless efforts of the men and women in blue to ensure the safety and well-being of our community,” his statement read.

The case was postponed to allow for further police investigation.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe thanked the public for providing valuable information and support throughout these operations.
