Female Polokwane EPWP worker killed in rear-end collision

The woman, in her thirties, was a passenger at the back of the municipal bakkie with two male colleagues, when a rear-end collision occurred with the bakkie behind them.

POLOKWANE – A female worker attached to the Polokwane Municipality under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) died in a tragic collision on the corner of Blaauwberg and Hospital streets in the city on Monday morning.

The woman, in her thirties, was a passenger at the back of the municipal bakkie with two male colleagues, when a rear-end collision occurred with the bakkie behind them.

While they survived without physical injuries, the other two municipal workers were rushed to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital for emergency care.

The woman, however, was ejected from the vehicle as it spun several times, and she sustained a fatal head injury.

Pallisades at the Leeto La Polokwane bus depot were also damaged in the incident, which affected traffic flow in a busy Hospital Street – one of the main entrances into the Central Business District.

Pedestrians and motorists had to use alternative routes to reach their destinations, until the scene was cleared at around 10:00.
